Leading the Faculty Orientation at Kochi Business School

6th Mar, 2025
Overview

Leading the Faculty Orientation at Kochi Business School

As the principal of Kochi Business School, I have always believed that faculty development is a fundamental component of academic success. And recently had the privilege of co-leading a Faculty Orientation Program with Mr. Adarsh. The event was both stimulating and thought-provoking for me.

This Orientation Program was more than a formal occasion. It was a gathering of enthusiastic educators who shared the objective of better shaping young brains. The program also aligned with KBS's mission and vision.

Throughout the session, I, together with Mr Adarsh, explored the theme “Education extends beyond the mere transfer of knowledge and constitutes a transformative process”. Mr. Adarsh and I further discussed our roles as mentors, facilitators, and change agents in education. We highlighted the importance of adopting a more collaborative and student-centered learning approach to the participants. This approach focuses on overall development instead of just academic success.

During the session, we discussed how to move beyond textbook teaching and truly spark creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking in our students. As we shared ideas and experiences, a beautiful synergy emerged. It was clear that we’re all united by a common goal, that is, to raise academic standards while supporting KBS’s mission of integrity, innovation, and inclusivity.

One of the most interesting parts of the session was reiterating KBS's core values as a community of thought leaders and lifelong learners, rather than just as a business school. I was moved by our faculty's transparency, openness to change, and personal growth. Their enthusiasm assured me that we are truly making a difference at KBS.

As I walked out of the session, my mind was filled with thoughtful reflections. While progress has been made, it’s clear that meaningful change in education takes time, persistence, and honest self-reflection. The journey ahead isn’t easy, but it’s necessary if we are to truly redefine the way we teach and lead.

My appreciation goes out to my fellow teachers at Kochi Business School for choosing this course of continuous improvement. Together, let’s shape the future.
